2. Composition & Scale

“The arrangement of elements within a work of art. The artist uses composition to arrange the subject and object of the image in a way to engage the viewer or provide a visually compelling scene. Artists aim to compose the subjects and objects of their works in a visually pleasing manner to engage the viewer.”

Lucas Designs takes great pride and pleasure in attempting to capture and illustrate his subject’s character and personality. The size, angle and placement on a page contributes enormously to successful translation and interpretation.

If either Piers or one of his photographers have taken the photographs, or multiple photographs have been provided – A photographic ‘mock up’ of a suggested angles, colours and compositions…

It is only when the customer is completely happy with the Photographic mock-up that any artwork will be begin.

What Size?

Whereas wall-space is an obvious consideration, Piers’ natural style and gestural method does lend itself to larger more expressive portraits thereby maximising detail, impact and expression.

Sadly, there is no hard and fast rule, each portrait, its character /pose will demand its own individual consideration – Generally speaking, this will be dictated by the quality, look and feel of the source images, coupled with the character of the subject.
